Ranked as a third growth in the 1855 Classification of Bordeaux, Chateau La Lagune has the highest rating for any property located in the Haut-Médoc. With a long history that dates back to the 16th Century, La Lagune was built in the year 1715 by architect Baron Victor Louis, and by 1730 the chateau was already known for producing excellent wines. Devastated by war and depression throughout the next couple hundred years, the estate was neglected until the mid-20th century and passed on to the Frey family who own several other honored wineries in France. La Lagune’s 200 acres are organically farmed and planted to mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller amounts dedicated to Merlot and Petit Verdot. Although they produce three different wines made from different amounts of each varietal, the estate is known for releasing wines that are meant to be approached a relatively youthful age. La Lagune produces nearly 20,000 cases on any given vintage.
