Here's a "wow" wine on every level, with incredible intensity and supple softness that builds momentum over many long minutes. A sweet cherry note at the core is surrounded by lush layers of tobacco, dark chocolate and spice, which promise to…

The 2008 Guado al Tasso is once again fabulous. In fact, it may be Tuscany’s most improved wine over the last few years. Firm, vibrant tannins support expressive layers of dark fruit, plums, cherries, sage, espresso and mocha. The wine shows fabulous detail and nuance in a translucent, totally seductive style, with tons of focus, drive and verve. It is a striking wine that will be a joy to follow over the coming years. The 2008 Guado al Tasso is composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2028.

The Winery

Guado al Tasso

For 26 generations, the Antinori family has been producing exquisite juice beginning in 1385, when Giovani di Piero Antinori joined the Florentine Guild of Vintners. The family name did not become globally known until Piero Antinori began a new winemaking style in the 1970s, when he decided to ignore traditional classification and highlight the versatility of Sangiovese. This rouge approach inspired him to replace the white grapes in the customary Chianti blend with Bordeaux varietals. It not only changed the flavor profile, but increased the longevity of the wines. His first effort was Tignanello and comprised of 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. Its successors are Solaia and Guado al Tasso. Today, the Super Tuscan movement is known for producing some of the highest quality wines in the world! Vintages to look out for: 1971, 1978, 1982, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007.
