A blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot from the multi-talented Robert Foley, this opaque purple-colored 2004 Claret displays the Midas touch exhibited by Foley for many years. Sweet aromas of creme de cassis, licorice, charcoal and spice are followed by a beautifully etched, full-bodied wine with sweet tannins, well-integrated acidity, and a hint of background oak. Long, lush and opulent, it can be enjoyed over the next decade.
Dusty oak and berry aromas are tight and compact, with dried currant, mineral, blackberry and oak, ending with more complexity and depth than is evident on the first sip. The tannins are firm. Decant.
In 1977 Robert Foley began his winemaking career working at Pride Mountain Vineyards where he spent 15 years as founding winemaker. Although he now solely focuses on his own label and Switchback Ridge wines, Robert has built his career on producing the winery’s flagship Claret as well as focusing on other “big reds” that Napa is known for. The estate is known for expressive and concentrated wines that provide an elegant finish, and most of the fruit comes from high elevations. In total, Robert Foley Wines produces around 8,000 cases per year.
