A fabulous nose of exotic spices, cocoa, ripe violets and sweet dried dark berries. This is a gorgeous, seductive, silky Cheval Blanc with a long finish. In 1998, the Merlots were beautiful and here there is 60% with hint of videos. For Merlot, it was picked just before the rain. This is the first vintage when it was managed by the LVMH group.
Aromas of blueberry, sweet tobacco, leather and pipe tobacco turning to raisins and Christmas cake. What a wine. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a very well-integrated palate. Dark color. A big and powerful wine still. Blockbuster. Massive. Just a baby.--`88/`98 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2008). Best after 2013.
Firmly established in St. Emilion and a stone’s throw from Pomerol, Cheval Blanc wines are rich yet never heavy and are full of complex, powerful perfumes paired with textures often compared to silk and velvet. It's terroir on the border of Pomerol and St. Emilion produces wines with characteristics of each region with the smooth opulence of Pomerol and the flamboyance of St. Emilion making this wine a true treasure. And since every genesis needs its defining moment, it was the idea of marrying Merlot, the traditional variety used in Saint-Emilion and Pomerol, with the Cabernet Franc that gave birth to Cheval Blanc.
