This small, organic grower Champagne producer should be on your radar! Located in the village of Verzy in Montagne de Reims Vincent and Adrien Renoir have the majority of their vineyards. In 2014, Adrien slowly converted the family parcels to organic methods, a feat in the cold climate of Champagne. The “Le terroir” is made exclusively from the estate’s vineyards – the Grand Cru Verzy vineyard. This technically non-vintage wine was made primarily from the 2018 harvest; 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir, with indigenous yeast fermentation and 11 months of aging in barrel.
A captivating lacework of lemon curd, fresh yellow pear, and heady white flowers balances the gravitas anchored in brioche flavors and fleshy mouthfeel. The mousse lingers with the lifted finish, putting a glow to the experience of this glassful that captures the dance between terroir and artistry.
