It may surprise you to learn that a Frenchman with a family history steeped in the Champagne region would decide to make wine in Washington State. But that is exactly what Christophe Baron did. This man is a true visionary, seeing the Walla Walla Valley for what it was (way back in the 90s): an area of land with potential to make high quality Rhone style wines. He saw that the terroir was surprisingly similar with large stones and cool temperatures. His vigneron prowess from years of training in Champagne and Burgundy only strengthened his resolve that this rugged landscape could produce elegant, age worthy wine. He took that gamble and boy did it pay off! Cayuse was born and is now known as one of the best domestic Syrah’s made. The winery has garnered awards from critics near and far.
