The 1855 Bordeaux Wine Classification created five rankings that classified Bordeaux Chateaux relative to their reputation and the wine prices they could command. 1855 was long ago, and much has changed in 167 years! The most significant shift has been the quality and impressive winemaking that has taken place in the second to fifth growth Chateaux. While the first growth Chateaux remain firmly in place, these wines are prohibitively expensive for Bordeaux oenophiles; however, the second to fifth growth wines tend to be equally compelling and have a proven track record of being excellent cellar investments. These wines are made for long term aging and can provide significant returns in the future. Between 2020 and 2021, these wines have seen a 20% increase in value, making them a delicious “buy low, sell high” investment.
Benchmark offers an extensive opportunity to acquire your value-driven Bordeaux wines from Chateaux such as Montrose, Leoville Las Cases, Cos d’Estournel, Ducru-Beaucaillou, Lynch-Bages, Pontet Canet, Batailley . . . and the list of possibilities are endless.
