Located just north of Saint Helena, Hourglass Wine’s Estate vineyard started as 4 acres of land planted to Zinfandel until the 1990’s when Phollexera hit the Napa Valley and the vineyard was planted to all Cabernet Sauvignon vines except for one of Chardonnay (which was planted for good luck). This vineyard has been in Hourglass owner Jeff Smith’s family since the 1960’s but they did not start bottling their own wines until 1997.

Today, Hourglass has grown to include the Blue Line Vineyard located just South of Calistoga and named after the US Forest service map which recognizes this area for its mineral rich, nutrient poor soil and great access to local water sources. This is the perfect storm when it comes to wines of the Napa Valley and the proof is really in the bottle!
