Cayuse Vineyards was founded by Christopher Baron, a Frenchman raised in a family of winemakers, who was searching for an ideal location to produce Pinot Noir wines. Instead, Baron found a spot in the Walla Walla Valley that reminded him of the famed vineyards of Chateau Neuf du Pape. With its unique soils, climate, and distinctive “stones”, the area was the perfect place to produce Rhone-style wines. Cayuse Vineyards, founded in 1997, and named for a local Native American tribe whose name means “stones”, has since grown to five specific vineyards. Planted with mainly Syrah, and other Rhone varietals, the winery also has small plots of Bordeaux varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. Each year the best of the vineyards is blended to produce wines that are acclaimed by wine writers and collectors around the world. Along with Cayuse, Baron now also owns two other brands - Horsepower and No Girls, developing wines all from their vineyards in the Walla Walla Valley, Washington. Each property produces wines of distinct styles, using traditional farming and winemaking techniques, dedicated to showcasing the characteristics of the terroir, and grape profile. Benchmark Wine Group is now offering new wines and vintages from Cayuse Vineyards, including many great 99- and 100-point wines at incredible values – see the full selection of all three brands below.
