This acclaimed Piedmont winery has been balancing tradition and modernity to create superb wines. The Gaja family believes in instituting innovative concepts into classic Italian winemaking. Angelo Gaja, a fourth-generation winemaker, implemented new techniques in the vineyard in the late 1960s. Within the cellar, Angelo had strict regulations on temperature. This helped control fermentation to be gentler when handling Nebbiolo tannins. The wines were aged in French oak Barriques. In Old World wine, it is risky to break traditions. However, Gaja saw massive success in its innovative winemaking.
