The Grand Cru Classe of Bordeaux represents the region’s highest quality wines. This classification system was installed by Napolean III in the year 1855 for the Paris Exposition. To this day, the ranking continues to hold immense prestige. The 5 “Premier Crus” (also known as First Growths) include Lafite Rothschild, Latour, Margaux, Haut-Brion, and Mouton Rothschild. These wines stand out compared to the rest because of the terroir, meticulous winemaking, and longevity. These wines embody luxury but can be difficult to acquire.
