The groundbreaking concept for Opus One was forged by Mouton’s Baron Philippe de Rothschild and California winemaker Robert Mondavi in the mid-1970s. Their goal was to combine the best qualities of Bordeaux and Napa Valley into one exceptional wine. In 1979, they produced their first vintage, and Mouton-Rothschild winemakers expertly crafted Mondavi’s grapes into a remarkable wine, aged in French oak barrels. Rumors turned heads, and tales and legends began to form around what started as an elusive wine. But one thing remained consistent: Quality, vintage after vintage. In this tradition, Overture 2021 marks a significant milestone as the first vintage-dated bottling of Opus One’s second wine, further cementing its legacy of excellence.
