The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is quite a bit richer than the 2005 tasted alongside it. The 2006 shows gorgeous depth as it opens up in the glass. Dark fruit, licorice, smoke and tar are some of the notes that flesh out in this broad-shouldered Cabernet Sauvignon. A creamy, textured finish rounds things out in style. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2026.
Randy Dunn purchased the initial land for Dunn Vineyards in 1979 with optimistic hopes of crafting fine wines from Howell Mountain. His hopes were surpassed as Dunn Vineyards is looked to as an example of terroir driven wines for the entire Napa Valley. Dunn takes great pride in his mountain fruit and tries to keep the alcohol of his wines close 13% asserting this lower level allows the flavors of the land to come through. Their small hillside vineyards dotting Howell Mountain are balanced with the natural vegetation and vineyards. This family run operation owns a total of 200 acres with 35 planted of predominately Cabernet Sauvignon and produces about 5000 cases annually.
