Agharta

Created by acclaimed California winemaker Pax Mahle, Agharta is a limited-production project devoted to powerful, unconventional wines built for extended aging. Its name references Miles Davis’s live album “Agharta,” reflecting Mahle’s interest in wines that possess individuality, complexity, and an expressive character of their own.

Agharta is best known for its Black Label Syrah, a whole-cluster wine matured for more than five years before release. The project also produced Cabernet Sauvignon from sites including Mountain Terraces Vineyard, situated high above Sonoma Valley on the Sonoma side of Mount Veeder. These rare bottlings combine concentrated fruit and savory complexity with firm structure, balance, and considerable cellaring potential.
