Klein Constantia

Klein Constantia occupies the upper foothills of the Constantiaberg in Cape Town’s historic Constantia Valley. Its origins reach back to 1685, when Cape Governor Simon van der Stel established the original Constantia estate. After the property was divided in 1712, one parcel became Klein Constantia and developed an international reputation for its wines.

The estate’s decomposed granite slopes and cooling breezes from False Bay provide distinctive conditions for fresh, structured wines, particularly Sauvignon Blanc. Klein Constantia is best known for Vin de Constance, its celebrated natural sweet wine made from Muscat de Frontignan. Once enjoyed in European royal courts and famously associated with Napoleon, the wine was restored to prominence following the estate’s revival in the 1980s.
