Ghost Horse Vineyards is one of Napa Valley’s most elusive and unconventional cult producers. Created by owner, farmer, and winemaker Todd Anderson in the late 1990s, the project remained secret for nearly a decade. Its inaugural 2000 vintage was not publicly revealed until 2009, when the wines appeared in a double-blind tasting alongside several celebrated California cult Cabernets.

The vineyard is situated in southeastern Napa Valley’s Coombsville region, against the Vaca Mountain Range. Its densely planted vines are divided into distinct sections, allowing Anderson to craft five separate 100% Cabernet Sauvignon bottlings: Ghost Horse, Fantome, Apparition, Spectre, and Premonition. Each represents a different portion of the vineyard and receives its own specialized winemaking treatment.

With total Cabernet Sauvignon production limited to approximately 300 to 400 cases annually, Ghost Horse remains exceptionally scarce. Its dramatic origin story, distinctive hierarchy of bottlings, and uncompromising approach have earned the wines an almost mythical reputation among collectors seeking the rarest expressions of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
