Abacela

Abacela was founded by scientists Earl and Hilda Jones, who left established careers to determine whether world-class Tempranillo could thrive in the United States. After studying the climates of Spain's Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions, they identified Oregon's Umpqua Valley as an ideal match and planted their first vines in 1995.

Their pioneering work established Abacela as one of the most important producers of Tempranillo in the Pacific Northwest. From its Fault Line Vineyards estate, the winery produces expressive, site-driven wines from Tempranillo, Albariño, Grenache, Malbec, Syrah, and other varieties selected for Southern Oregon's diverse growing conditions. Abacela's scientific approach to matching grape varieties with climate has helped shape winegrowing throughout Oregon and beyond.
