Piedmont is dominated by the Nebbiolo grape, known for its lean and mean character. Despite its light appearance, it has a solid tannic and acidic profile. Like Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo is both a temperamental grape to grow and terroir-expressive, making it a wonder to behold when given time to age in the bottle. The perfect contrast for Nebbiolo vines is found on the hilltops of Piedmont, where the Alps and the Mediterranean meet and limestone and sandstone soils are present.
